Just wanted to get any additional ideas you guys have on sources and clutch options for the R-154. I've done a search, but since the old site died, we are sorely lacking information.

I am planning on pricing just the disc from Toyota (stock replacement) and tracking down some aftermarket alternatives. In the next year, the car will stay below 300 whp. So something streetable but can handle bolt-ons easily.

Anyone have any recommendations from personal experience?

i just put in the RPS sport clutch for mine. Got it on HorsePowerFreaks. Rated at like, 467lbs/ft torque but it's a pretty light and easy clutch. I'd recommend it. (also used the JUN flywheel for the 1jz, what a great match up, lol)

Thanks! How do I know which clutches are for the R-154? Or will the 7M or 2JZ clutches work?

Also, what disc did you get with the Sport pressure plate? 6 puck or disc? Can you slip it at all?

I have a 6 puck in my Stratus and its pretty harsh for the street. I'd like something a bit more slippable.

2jz/1jz will not work on the 7m and vice versa. Reason is that the flywheel for the 1jz/2jz is an eight bolt job while the flywheel for the 7m = a 6 bolt job :)

No.. a 2JZ clutch will not work in a R154. The V160 bellhousing is larger, and I do not think that the 2JZs disc can fit inside - plus, there may be more or less splines.

7M-GTE with R154: 7M-GTE clutch and flywheel
1JZ-GTE with R154: 7M-GTE/1JZ-GTE clutch and 1JZ flywheel
2JZ-GTE with R154[MkIII with 2JZ]: 7M-GTE/1JZ-GTE clutch and 1JZ flywheel+bellhousing
2JZ-GTE with V160[6-speed getrag]: 2JZ-GTE clutch and 2JZ-GTE flywheel

Friend of mine wants to do 2JZ swap in his Trueno. Now he has 1JZ in this car with R154 tranny. Anyone know if he can use 1JZ flywheel on 2JZ. I mean are 1JZ and 2JZ FW identical so that he can use 2JZ clutch ?
Thanks

Reread one more time previous posts - seems like he has to use 1JZ clutch. Is FW friction surface area of 2JZ bigger than the same of 1JZ?
Thanks

he can use the 1j flywheel and clutch on the 2j providing he use's the r154 trans.7mgte clutch is what you need to bolt up to a 1jz flywheel.1jz flywheel is specific and you can't use a 2jzgte flywheel with an r154.the 7mgte flywheel's have been drilled for the 1j crank.
on a side note.you should see that 300whp easy with bolt on's and a tune, provided you have a good motor.mine made 265whp with exhaust, filter, and 14psi.that was with a power robbing auto trans and shitty 373 rear(which suck's for the 1j powerband)i'm sure any clutch will work if your going to pussy foot it

Just wondering, I just got my t78 big single for my 2jz MK3 swap. I have the 5 speed r154 tranny and I was wondering what clutches out there are suitable for my setup. Im aware that clutches blow regularly due to the power of the turbo upgrade, I have the motor out so Id rather do it right the first time than having to replace it later. Any response will be greatly appreciated... :1zhelp:
