Guys,

I just bought a BIC DDP off a member on here and have a quick question. Currently my exhaust is one piece from the turbo back, the flange broke off the stock dp and my straight pipe exhaust was just welded to it by the muffler shop (stupid I know...).

Now I am going to cut the exhaust to take the stock Dp off but wonder if having the DP hanging from the turbo (even if just for a week or two) until I can find an exhaust shop that is willing to work on a catalytic converter free car will be putting a lot of stress on the turbine housing and exhaust manifold. I was just wondering if anyone has run open DDP without the exhaust holding the end of the pipe up without ill effect?

Also has anyone welded on a bracket that bolts up to the tranny(I think thats where the stock DP is bolted on but I cant remember) on a DDP style dp? Is this completely unneccasary? I think I am going to put it on mine to help keep extra loading off the turbine housing once it is installed.

Any experience with this is appreciated

Thanks

With BIC it should bolt up to the factory tranny mount at least the one I had bolted up to it to support it I personally would not run it open besides sounding like shit it could cause a fire.

yeha.. any type of open exhaust needs to be away from the underbody of the car.. so open dp is a no no.. i have seen about 3 cars that blew up from that

our race car has been open BIC DDP since we put it on. no problems here. it's just really, really loud.. we've dragged it and autox'ed it w/o any problems. if youre only doing it for a few days, you shouldnt have any issues, just dont use it as a long term solution.

Grab a turn-down from Summitracing or something. Then, later on you can put a 3" electric cutout in there, and use the turn-down for that.

looks like a photo chopped picture.

thanks for the replys guys. I am aware that some cars have caught fire from an open DP. I plan on driving it for a week or two max like this while I find someone to fix the rest of my exhaust system, and the underbody of my car is oil and residue free :)

What I am really worried about is having this big heavy pipe putting a lot of load and torque on the turbine housing and manifold. Has anyone put a bracket on a DDP like the BIC that mounts it to the transmission(i think) like the stock DP has?

you could use the stock bracket, just get a bigger calmp... or just make a new bracket, its not that hard to do.

but if your going to drive around with an open downpipe, i would suggest you use the stock one vs the BIC one, cause the stock one is a lot quiter vs the 3''

i would agree with out but the stock DP wouldnt flow as good as a BIC, not unless your talking about the STock Style BIc DP? i love my Stock BIC dp,

but it didnt come with a tranny mount. i fabbed up the stock CAT mount and just enlarged it to fit the 3". it tucks in just fine.

I've had a t-bolt clamp on my stock bracket for a little over a year now with no breakage or loosening.

I opened up the stock bracket as well to fit my 3" DP...

Why are you going catless? Are you running leaded gas or just being cheap?

As long as the cat is not clogged or too small, it won't have a noticable change on power. There's dyno proof all over the internet...

I'm just being cheap for a year or so, then Ill be purchasing a high flow cat for the car. I still have the factory cat but its 300 miles away at home and not where i am at college.
