My slow supra (new turbo powered owner)

Well I finally got the backbone to post this question. I've done some reading about turbo engines and turbo lag or boost threshold but honestly that ride from 0 rpm to 2500 rpm or 0 boost to 7 psi seems so slow.
Is this normal, or better yet what should I expect.
Can I do anything to reduce the lag.
The car has low mileage, runs, idles, starts with no issues. I have no mods (see my signature below.) I have done a lot of maintenance in the last 4 months. I checked for codes and there were none.
As a point of reference I should mention that my previous weekend play car was a stock 5.0 1989 mustang. Damned be the bastard that pinched her.

Stock turbos are pretty slow, have you checked your base timing?? You might have a very soft wastegat spring which means the boost will build very slowly as the gate will open to early.

Intake, a downpipe (with a highflow elbow) test pipe, and a good exhuast system ull feel it pull.

or you can do what i am doing.
K&N FIPK
Downpipe
electric cutout

once u pull the stock crap out you will see how restrictive it is.

The only thing I would add to this is that for some nice free breathing I would suggest the Apex'i filter.

Other than that, I was just wondering why you felt that you SHOULD mention that your previous car was a 5.0 stang? Maybe you have a reason that I missed, I tend to miss the simplest reasons, but I'm just curious.

I mention it not out of disrespect to the supra community which would include myself. I mentioned it because the 5.0 is not a turbo car and the power curve or torque seemed to start from the get go or a dead stop.
The supra is my first turbo powered vehicle.

start with the basic mods and you'll fall in love with the turbo rush. dont' sell the car short it's getting a little older but with proper maintainence and some BPU mods you'll never want to stop drving it

I agree with putting in a good intake system and changing the wastegate spring. The exhaust is going to be more expensive than the intake and spring, but is also well worth the money for the power increase that you will get from it.

This isn't mine, but damn it looks pretty!!!

Alright you all convinced me not to give up.
Well my first mod will be a re-torque on the factory HG. My second mod would be my catback. My present one looks like swiss cheese. I've been doing some looking around and I think I am going to go with the Raptor dual tip. After that the supra fund will be depleted, for now. I've got a weeks vacation coming to me and that will be a good time to do the install.
Thanks all.

You really need to get rid of the stock turbo elbow\downpipe and cat. We don't have emissions anymore so who needs a cat?:icon_bigg

I'm planning on getting rid of the stock turbo elbow\downpipe and cat. The catback exhaust is first on the list. I'm getting tired of having exhaust come out from underneath the drivers seat.

Living in FL whats your opinion on aluminized vs stainless or even ceramic considering our climate.

Stock supras are slow. Get a full 3" turbo back and an intake. But before everything, get a mls headgasket on that thing with at least some arp bolts.
