sorry if this is a totally noob question but ive been reading up like crazy b/c i want to do a 1j swap and found this place that sells 1j front clips, but they offer 1j clips from the JZX90 Toyota Chaser and JZZ30 Toyota Soarer, and am wondering if they are the same and if both will fit into the mk3, i know theres a sticky on how to wire the soarer 1j but i didnt find one about a chaser 1j.
thanks for any info
i apologize if this is a stupid question

Apology accepted, J/K man.:biglaugh:

On a serious note, if you plan on doing the swap do it the right way the first time and buy a jza70 clip. I bought a soarer motor and I'm still sourceing and looking around for parts and btw nobody really does chaser swaps in mkiii because they have a front sump oil pan which doesn't fit in the mk3.

yeah I'm totally aboard. sometimes i feel very uncomfortable posting questions about my 1jz because I'm a beginner at 1jz swaps and most of my questions are elementary, majority of members here are very knowledgeable and do very complicated work (well beyond simple parts replacement). Although i can't help you with your particular question, i would recommend calling a professional shop like "driftmotion" and have them do the work. I mean, if you feel that you need to apologize 10-15 times for your question its better to pay somebody and not to feel incompetent.

i did read something about the front sump oil pan, but i thought that only applied to the aristo 2j's, well thanks for the info, ill do the jza70 clip, i guess thats the reason the soarer clips are like 700 less, no further assistance needed, mods feel free to delete
thanks

like bluemkiii said, just go with a JZA70 clip

the soarer can be used, as long as you get motor mounts that will fit the A70, it has all the parts, and you have someone (or do it yourself) adapt the harness to work. AF1JZ covered it in one of his threads

i personally have a JZX90 motor in my car, it was such a pain in the ass sourcing parts, although i lucked out with some local guys having exactly what i needed a few times. but it is front sump, so youd have to get a rear sump pan right off the bat, it has different motor mounts, different ECU/harness, etc. list keeps going on and on.

in all ive spent way more on parts plus the motor, than i would have spent on a jza70 clip.

Considering the price difference between the jza70 and the jzz30, I'd go with the jzz30 if money is an issue. I guess it'd be different if there wasn't a thread to wire in the jzz30. But, since me and my friend did the wiring and I made the "how to" thread, there are more options now.

Like Ben said above, you'll just need to get the jza30 engine mount brackets or get a set from BIC. Everything else is basically the same.

JZZ30 swaps are worth more money because they are plug and play with the lexus sc300. If you can find one with the R154 its even better cause it has the modified shifter location. But you cant use that setup in the supra without switching out the parts. Save yourself the headache and find a JZA70 1jz.

i hear that the soarer ecu is a better unit over the 1jz supra ecu.

just throwin that out there.

i used a soarer 1jz and ecu, no real difficulties with the install.

Another thing I would throw out there as well....Think about it, the 1jz in a jza70 is probably beat to shit more so than one in a jzz30. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the 1jz in either car did have its share of fun at one time. But, I'm just saying that the one in a jzz30 has probably seen less abuse. Therefore it being a "cleaner" engine. Just my 2 cents about it.

i second that, my chaser 1JZ was extremely clean, much much cleaner than any of the jza70 swaps ive seen locally.
