its not the ge journals that's the issue...its the fact your useing journals from another motor....motors all have their own fingure print so to speak...what certain part might work in one block may not work in another without resizeing to match them....so if you use those journals you will most likely need a line hone done so it will mate the new journals and block together so they will be true and round......this is why when you take appart a motor you always number the parts in the order you take them off...even within the same engine parts change size and or mate different so its bad idea to take #1 piston and put it in #6 cylinder and so on....parts could vary within a few thousands of an inch and a few thousandths could mean 200,000 mile motor or a blown motor on startup.

i see what your saying. so i can baiscally swap everything i just have to make sure everything is matched together with block i.e. line bore the journals.

"Journals"? wtf?
I think they are talking about the main caps IDK for sure though. The GTE and GE blocks are the same except the oil squirters I believe right or wrong IJ? Well maybe a return line for the turbo, the oil filter I think is different.

UMMMM you can use the crank and rods just need pistons for turbo motor because of the compression ratio.. i have no idea what the hell they talking about honeing journals....just mic or plastiguage the mains and rods...

If you're doing a full rebuild you can. There are a few mk2 owners that have built NA motors using turbo blocks for the oil squirters.

yea i dont know a whole lot about the terms for the internals in the block but when i was looking at the repair manual the journals are on the crank itself. so the main caps is what we should be talking about. and the oil squirters is the only difference between the blocks as far as i know which isnt a whole lot obivously.

meh.....i knew what was being said and or being asked.....and i knew what he meant by journals.....i didnt feel the need to debait or argue or correct for that matter....

and plastiguage is for noobs...aka shady tree mechanic....someone who really gives a damn would toss that shit out and get a good set of bore mics and a set of 1-6 od mics...

pistol oil squirters are nice but they are just a bandied...and from what i understand the squirters in the 7m dont even hit the bottom of the piston

And the problem with that attitude is this is the tech section....

If people aren't corrected this will turn into "StupidMania", we spend a lot of time preventing this happening.
